Most of the time, addiction starts out as a solution to pain. This is what happened to Heath Erlandson after suffering an injury. His father and son tell the story of how his life went from one of joy and promise, to one of addiction and pain. This is a story that happens in every community. 

The Chiropractic Society of Wisconsin, and its members, have taken the problem of opioid abuse head on. It is our goal to make Chiropractic care the first treatment option for people dealing with acute or chronic pain.

  • 80 percent of heroin users started out on pain pills.
  • The CDC has stated that prescriptions for acute pain should not be written for longer than three days.
  • 71 percent of doctors prescribe opioids for back pain and 99 percent prescribe the pills for longer than three days.
  • Opioid and Heroin overdose account for over 28,000 deaths annually in the United States.

The president has authorized a $1.1 billion initiative to combat addiction with new medications. And release of new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that long-term use of opioids as medically unsound..
